Last night I finally got the courage to go up to Santa Cruz to this famous flamenco bar. I had been sure I would get lost but now the PHONE WORKS I could use the maps! I arrived too early so settled into this little tapas bar for pimentos ( capsicum) and bread and a beer. I had had a massive Enslata Andalucia at lunch time which had tuna, eggs, carrot, corn kernels, lettuce, tomatos and beet root so a small meal was all I required. ( I am pleased to report I can now fit into my green walking pants comfortably despite the odd beer and regular glass of wine).
While at the Carboneria I overheard a group of Aussies and we started talking and I joined them at their table. they were on holiday celebrating their 50th birthdays. Charmaine's husband had given the gift of her best friend to travel with them. They were a fun group. but Charmaine was also celebrating her survival from breast cancer too! Three out of four women I have met in two days are breast cancer survivors. Charmaine was still undergoing treatment so can only be away four weeks.
they were heading for the Cinqua Terra in Italy today so didn't want to stay to late. I realised I hadn't checked the closing time of the Hostal so thought I needed to go too.
As I neared the Hostal which was across the river from Santa Cruz the door was closed. A moment of panic but then I thought they must stay awake because nobody goes to bed before 1:00 pm anyway. Sure enough there was a bell to ring but I could have used my swipe card! I crept into my room which had four pilgrims leaving the next morning. They were all sound asleep so I just removed my boots and socks and bra and slept in my clothes so as not to disturb them. Well that was an heroic effort wasted as our room abuts the reception area and there was constant coming and going until about 1:30 am. The one window let all the noise and light in. We were all up at 7:00 am and I wished my first buen caminos. I elected to do all my washing as I felt disgusting from being hot and sleeping In my clothes. It also alerted me to being organised the night before for departure in the morning.
I am having trouble uploading photos which is really disappointing.
