I broke the ten o'clock barrier tonight and didn't dine till 10:15 pm. I have to admit I nearly vacuumed up my dinner of steak and tomato followed by rice piddling on XP ice cream. It might stand for extra proof? The ice cream seemed like rum and raisin, sort of. Very tasty and accompanied by a nice Rose and later Americans cafe solo(long black). Not a pilgrims meal at 19.80€.
Today I did hop on and off the bus. Visited the navigation museum which charts the exploration of the world by ship. It was really well done with a lot if interactive features such as little films, sounds, even smells!
Next was the contemporary art gallery which is almost buried in a vast convent and former ceramic tile factory. It is set in enormous grounds, within an old convent and cloister which had two churches. It was actually a bit spooky as there were only a handful of people wandering in this vast space. The collection seemed dwarfed by its surroundings and almost abandoned. There was no cafe or signs of auxiliary activity. Even though the sign said tickets we were allowed free entry. a nice bonus.
The gardens of Maria Louisa were magnificent. A green oasis that was easy to get lost in. I mustn't forget the fact that there are hundreds of orange trees all over Sevilla so the air is perfumed with orange blossom fragrance now it is spring.
Later I found this gorgeous cafe bar with tiles, brass lamps and dark timber ceiling. I had a delicious potato tortilla for a late lunch at 3:00 pm. I was fortified for my walking tour through the Macareni district. I thought Macarena was just a dance but it is more concerned with the Macarena Virgin statue that is a Sevillian icon.
The walking guide, Elisabeth told me at the end that it had been her very first trip and she had been so nervous. She had mostly Spanish and German tourists and I was the only native English speaker. I tried to listen to the Spanish explanations to get a sense of what it was about and then also heard the English. My comprehension is improving. I assured her she had come across as accomplished which she had. She is a tourism student.
I am having issues uploading pictures from my phone and the camera at the moment. It must be a combination of my incompetence and technology not working properly. I still haven't got the SIM card issue sorted yet.
